David Volfe, Violin

Joined Lyric Orchestra in 1992

Education: MM, Indiana University Bloomington


  • What teachers inspired you the most?


I began my musical studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris, France with Gérard Poulet and subsequently studied at Indiana University Bloomington with Josef Gingold, obtaining a Masters in Violin Performance as well as a Performer's Certificate.  


  • With which other groups have you performed?


I also have a strong interest in contemporary music and have performed and recorded with the 2e2m ensemble in France, with the June in Buffalo festival, working there with composer Charles Wuorinen, as well as with the CUBE ensemble here in Chicago.


  • What is your favorite opera to perform?


Wagner's Parsifal -- it's one of my favorite pieces.


  • What was the scariest thing that ever happened to you in the pit?


Breaking my instrument!  Luckily it could be repaired.


  • What is your favorite travel destination:


Barcelona, Spain


  • What have you binge-watched lately?


Absolutely Fabulous (British TV Show).
