We are deeply saddened by the passing of one of the Lyric's greatest family members, Gianna Rolandi, who was head of the Ryan Opera Center from 2006-2013 and the beloved wife of our Music Director, Sir Andrew Davis. We were privileged to have performed with Gianna for her 1986 Lyric Opera debut as Dorinda in Handel's Orlando and as Despina in Cosi fan tutte in 1993/94. In addition to her impeccable, brilliant singing, we will miss her effervescence, generosity, warm-heartedness, and gleaming smile which frequently graced our backstage corridors. Gianna fostered many of the wonderful singers who came through the Ryan Opera Center with whom we now enjoy performing today. We look forward to honoring her memory in our performance of Beethoven 9 next season.
